“Welcome to My World”

Do you remember my little mermaid from last year?

My little mermaid’s back this year

With taller legs and longer hair.

She used to be a bit afraid

But now swims like a proper mermaid.

She’s full of mischief, laughs and fun

Splashing and jumping around in the sun.

It has been one big swim party at my house this summer. I decided that shockingly cold water was for the birds, but not for people, so I purchased an inexpensive plastic solar cover, which heats the water almost to bath water temperature. It can easily be pulled off at the end of the pool (see photo) and left in a heap until we have finished swimming, and then one person can float it back onto the surface of the water. Everyone loves to swim now. I am really happy the pool is being enjoyed by children once again.

Sunday, we drove out to the Antelope Valley of Southern California. This Valley forms the northwesterly boundary of the Mojave Dessert. It lies just beyond the coastal valleys and mountain ranges.

We were doing some “thunderhead” chasing. We could see the huge pillars of cloud miles away over at least two ranges of mountains. These clouds can be seen for a hundred miles towering into the sky. We knew approximately where they might be, but we gave up our chase before we actually reached their location. The photo above is overlooking the California Aqueduct in the foreground, and Palmdale Reservoir in the center. They are practically right on top of the San Andreas Fault, which stretches along the same direction. Looking just past the Aqueduct, you are staring right down at the Fault. It is on slightly elevated ground at this juncture, and a notch is cut out for the I-14 Freeway to go through. The twisted geological layers of earth are very visible as you pass over this stretch of roadway. It is a little creepy. You tend to breathe a sigh of relief when you have safely crossed. I am joking a little, but there is some truth to this.

See you in a week or so when I return from Vegas.
